Run for the Month

My goal for July is to go for a jog each day. Today is my third day in a row, and I want to make tomorrow my fourth.

I’m using the RunKeeper app to keep track of the time and to offer coaching tips, but the main thing is to just lace up and get out there everyday. Motivation and injuries have been problem spots in the past, but I will do what I can to mitigate both of those issues.

So here I am, in Hono, it’s raining outside and my movie is taking way too long to download (current status: 2 hrs, 11 mins, and 51 secs until it’s “ready to watch”…I mean, seriously?!?). At any rate, I’m sitting here thinking about my writing. And why I haven’t done very much of it in the past two years. Sure, I’ve been busy. I’ve been going places. I’ve been doing a lot of job-related activities. And I’ve been kicking a lot of ass, particularly in that last arena. However, my writing has fallen to the wayside…and I don’t like that. Letting it fall to the wayside definitely does not count for points in the kicking ass department.

So here I am, back in business. Keep an eye out for more content to come.

Oh, and in case anyone cares, my movie only needs 2 hours, 3 mins, and 9 secs to finish downloading now. >:(

DIY Fruit Fly Trap

So I don’t know if other people have this trouble, but I recently experienced a fruit fly home invasion. I tried a few different remedies before I came across one DIY solution that actually worked. Before that I was stalking and assassinating them one at a time…which makes me a gnat-ural born killer, I suppose. At any rate, back to the business of ridding your home of gnats/fruit flies!

Setting the Gnat Trap

1. Find a small plastic container and fill it the bottom with approximately 1″ of apple cider vinegar.

2. Pour enough vegetable oil into the center of the container so that there is an island of oil surrounded by the vinegar. (Oil and vinegar do not mix — PSA for all of you people who slept through your middle school science classes.)

3. Dip your finger into the vegetable oil and run it around the rim of the plastic container.

4. Place your newly concocted trap near the source of your fruit fly problem, sit back, and let the trap do its thing.

I tried a few other solutions, and even did side-by-side comparison of DIY solutions (which included, I kid you not, the counting of fly carcasses and calculation of the local fruit fly death rate). This was the best method. Trust me. You can thank me later.

I listened to these a lot last year, but I just resubscribed to this podcast this afternoon. It’s a great source of inspiration for anyone who wants to expand their own mind with respect to new and innovative business ideas and concepts. I really do love it. Not only are you getting to listen in on Stanford-quality lectures — you’re getting that education for F-R-E-E. And how can you go wrong with that?
